Lego Batman Movie: New Trailer And Review

Crowd: “Batman! We love you!”

Batman: “Thank you, I’m blushing super hard under the mask.”

Warner Bros. has dropped the main trailer for the Lego Batman movie. This is the fourth trailer for the movie, which is scheduled to release Feb. 10 next year.

From the looks of it, this movie is bound to be hilarious and fun, especially the Dark Knight’s sidekick Robin, who is modeled after the no-pants-Dick Grayson character. The Lego Robin seems to embrace the antics of Burt Ward’s 1960s portrayal of the Boy Wonder and pushes it even further.

Even though Robin was seen by many as an annoying character and was even voted to be killed in the comics by the end of the 1980s, this character might actually find a likeability in the Lego universe.

Robin is voiced by actor Michael Cera, while Batman is given life by actor Will Arnett.

The story seems to involve Batman in a face off with his arch-nemesis the Joker, voiced by actor Zach Galifianakis. Batman is initially incapable of working with others and rides solo, but in the end, teamwork will prevail and a Bat-family-type bond will be formed. That seems to be the crux of this feel-good story.

Barbara Gordon, voiced by actor Rosario Dawson of the Daredevil and Luke Cage series fame, is shown for the first time in the new trailer as the police commissioner who wants to team up with Lego Batman.

I’m guessing there’s going to be a romantic inclination between her and Lego Batman, especially considering the fact she is Lego Batgirl. But given it’s a family movie and that too a Lego movie, people are expecting killer jokes and not a Killing Joke type romance.

giphyHowever, I haven’t seen a Lego Batgirl costume in any of the trailers and even in the action scenes. This sort of makes me think that Barbara may not actually don a Batgirl costume in the movie. I may be wrong, though.

So, we have Lego Batman expanding to a team of his own and the emergence of Robin and Batgirl. Kind of sounds like the 1997 Batman & Robin movie minus the nipples.

Speaking of Batman movies, I’m sure you didn’t miss out the Batman V. Superman reference in the trailer.

Also, the trailer makes a reference to the Joker’s obsession with Batman and his craving for attention with those puppy eyes.

“I don’t currently have A bad guy… I am fighting a few different people… I like to fight around.”

Another aspect the trailer focuses on is the number of “Bat” gadgets and Bat costumes in the Bat cave owned by Batman… it’s just Batshit Batty!

Historically, Batman is known to have a number of gadgets, vehicles, and even costumes, and the trailer makes a reference to the Batman’s Battiness of adding “Bat” to everything. There’s the Batmobile, the Batcopter, the Batsub, Bat kayak and even a Bat-truck.

Here’s a video of some of Batman’s craziest gadgets:

Besides the Bat-gadgets, there’s also the number of Bat costumes he owns. There’s the Classic Bat costume, the gold colored Bat Pack costume, the Winged Avenger, White Bat, Electric Bat, and others.

In fact, in the first teaser trailer for Lego Batman, there are even more costumes hanging, including Com-Bat, Batman Beyond, Current Bat, and others. Here’s the first teaser:

You can also check out the second teaser trailer if you want to see more references to other Batman movies and the 1960s Batman show with Adam West:

Lego Batman is expected to be a fun family movie, and I think there are going be many more movies added to this franchise in the future. Hopefully, this movie will also give Robin a good home where the character can finally feel wanted.

And on that happy note, let’s do the Bat-dance…

The weird one in 1966:
